From the welcome post you know that I have been baking since I was 3 years old on a little step stool helping my grandmother (R.I.P.) stir the batter. To me baking has evolved from being “work” to a passion. I love trying new recipes and changing current recipes to be allergy-friendly i.e. substituting cow’s milk for goat’s milk. So far I have mastered the following:
- Red Velvet Cake
- Cream Cheese Pound Cake
- Pound Cake
- Coconut Pies
- Chocolate Chip Cookies
- Lemon Cake
- Raspberry cupcakes
- Egg custard
- Lemon Meringue Pie
- Cranberry Sauce
You may look at the list and think ” hmm, this is not alot,” but remember I said mastered meaning I can bake other desserts but I have not considered myself as mastering them yet! I am always looking to bake new desserts especially from other countries. My top 5 desserts I am looking to make before 2020 ends are as follows:
- Macrons
- Meringue cookies
- Flan
- German Chocolate Cake
- Fruitcake
What do you think? Should I add to my list, if so what is missing? Leave a comment down below.
Baking to me is peaceful. Being a doctoral student can be pretty stressful at times so one thing that calms me is baking. I guess baking transports me back in time to when I was in my grandmother’s kitchen right next to her learning to make her recipes. That was a time I truly cherished… it was our “us” time. We used to talk about everything during those moments. Therefore, now I feel at peace when I am in my own kitchen baking her same recipes that she taught me. Although they are “secret” family members-only type recipes, I have learned several recipes that I myself have adapted.
I will be sharing those on this blog and including the misadventures of baking. One misadventure to be on the lookout for is when I decided to accept the challenge of making a sheet cake for an event. Let me tell you, I learned some interesting lessons from that challenge.
So subscribe and I hope that baking will bring you peace!
Forever Ms. Baking Queen,
